Development of new recovery processes for LV SEAFOOD
How can fish roes that cannot be used in their current state be recovered ? This is the project that the seafood company LV SEAFOOD entrusted to Upcyclink.
About the project
- Location : Riga, Latvia
- Project stage : research & development
- Raw material : fish roes
- Target markets : well-being, beauty, food
Context
Valorize immature fish roes
LV SEAFOOD is a professional seafood company. Its product range includes different types of fish, shrimps, as well as various types of roes (farmed salmon roes, wild salmon roes and trout roes). Among its fish roe volumes, it has salmon roe that cannot be used in its current state because it is immature. The markets of well-being, beauty and human food are targeted. Indeed, these markets offer a high added value and are relevant with the volumes of by-products available. However, they require a strong traceability and strict specifications.
Role of Upcylink
Development of new green biorefinery processes
Upcyclink first developed and tested fractionation and stabilization processes for a sample of transferred fish roes in the laboratory. These processes are compatible with the strict specifications of the cosmetics and nutraceutical industries, while guaranteeing economic and environmental benefits. These trials were continued on a semi-industrial scale in a technological hall in order to scale up the processes and confirm the transformation yields.
Technical features of the solution
- Expertise : Processes – Biotechnologies – R&D
- Technologies : Grinding – Enzymatic hydrolysis – Centrifugation – Drying
- Final products : Protein concentrate – Lecithin rich in omega 3
Benefits for the client
Value creation and yield optimization
For LV Seafood, this new process development project opens up the prospect of growth in high value-added markets by using previously unexploited raw materials and profitable green processes (solvent-free, low energy consumption).
